WEEK OF August 20 – 26, 2018

Home is where your heart—and much mental focus—will be starting Thursday, August 23, as the Sun beams into Virgo and your fourth house of family, foundations and domestic delights until September 22. Suddenly the same old walls may start to look like they need a fresh coat of paint—or maybe you can knock that one down to create a more open floor plan? Ideas may come fast and furious, particularly if you spend a lot of time on Pinterest and sites like Domino and Houzz. Thanks to Virgo’s tidy, minimalist vibes, you might get inspired to pare WAY down and throw yourself into a monthlong decluttering mission. Be smart about what you do with your discarded treasures: Offer some to friends, donate much to worthy organizations and barter, upcycle or sell the things with appreciable value. (But maybe hang onto grandma’s heirloom china.) Some Geminis might finally be ready to make a move—across town or across the country—while others will get into serious discussions with roommates or bae about changing up their living arrangement. Try to think down the road and not just in the present moment. Transitions like this are exciting but can be hard to undo when they’re enacted. Check your heart before doing anything “drastic.” When all these shifts are done, showcase your on-fleek space with a cocktail or dinner party. You might reconnect to your own inner host(ess) with the most(ess)!

Forgiveness is easy to talk about but harder to actually do, especially when it’s human nature to derive a strong sense of satisfaction from nursing an old grudge. But here’s the thing, Gemini: By forgiving someone else, you actually do YOURSELF the real favor. You may not realize how much energetic bandwidth this is taking up. Under Saturday’s exceptional and empowering grand earth trine, you’ll have a rare chance to release something (or someone) for once and for all and let bygones be bygones. The generous Sun connects the dots with tough-love Saturn and transformational Uranus in your most sensitive houses. Don’t overthink it or turn it into a Hollywood production. Just decide to move on and then let it go! When you get stuck, remind yourself that everyone, yourself included, is only human.

Sunday marks the year’s only full moon in Pisces, which fires off virtual rockets in your tenth house of career ambition. This lunar lift can bring things to completion or signal a key turning point. A professional goal you’ve been working on for the past six months might finally come together brilliantly, or a golden opportunity could fall into your lap. Conversely, if you’ve been spinning your wheels in a work rut, this full moon could light a path toward a brand-new trajectory. Not sure what you want? Enlist a coach to help you find your true north.

Also on Sunday, a romantic issue could blow up out of proportion. Try not to take things at face value: Love planet Venus is locking horns with shadowy Pluto in two of your intimate, passionate sectors. This is a better moment to look inward than try to resolve things with another person. It also offers a great opportunity to practice self-restraint!

Pippa Middleton and James Matthews

Kate Middleton’s younger sister Pippa is expecting her first child with her husband James Matthews later this year, and while Pippa has written about her pregnancy for a British magazine (Waitrose Weekend), she hasn’t said anything about her baby’s gender.

And that’s how it’s going to stay, Pippa’s brother-in-law Spencer Matthews told UK’s This Morning talk show today.

“So, do they know if they’re having a boy or a girl?” the host Ruth Langsford asked him.

“They don’t,” he said. “They’re extremely private and honestly, we know nothing.”

Kate Middleton, as People pointed out, also didn’t reveal the gender of any of her three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, or Prince Louis, before they were born. She and William didn’t know it personally either for any of their children, according to E! and BBC. It’s not clear from Spencer’s interview whether Pippa and James know and are just keeping it private or if they’re also going to be surprised too.

Ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun has long been deemed skin’s worst enemy, wreaking havoc on a cellular level and resulting in fine lines, pigment gone wild, and even skin cancer. But experts warn of another stealth skin saboteur: pollution.

From the incessant soot lining you windowsills, you already know you’re constantly surrounded by pollution—what’s alarming is that the particulate matter suspended in the air actually enters the skin, attacks cell DNA, and, over time, causes wrinkles, dryness, inflammation, and uneven tone. “Pollution microparticles are 20 times smaller than your pores, so they easily infiltrate the skin,” says NYC dermatologist Dendy Engelman, MD.

Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

Digital light pollution—the blue light emitted from your phone, tablet, or computer—is also a threat. This high-energy visible light (HEV) causes free radical damage, as UV light does, but penetrates the skin more deeply than either UVA or UVB wavelengths. “HEV destroys the DNA of skin cells and leads to premature aging and cellular death,” says Barbara Sturm, MD, an aesthetic doctor based in Düsseldorf, Germany, whose Anti-Pollution Drops are a cult favorite. The good news: You can bolster your skin’s natural defenses.

Create a protective force field in the A.M

First, apply an antioxidant serum “to bind to free radicals and keep them from causing cellular damage,” Engelman advises. Next, block particles as well as digital light with a product designed to “form a semipermeable membrane that protects pores from getting infiltrated,” she adds (try Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly, which safeguards skin against pollution). As the final step in your routine, use a mineral sun- screen to deflect UV as well as HEV: “Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide act like tiny shields on the skin’s surface against a broad spectrum of light,” Engelman says.

At night, remove toxins from the skin’s surface

Don’t skip washing your face before bed. A facial brush can help you to achieve a deeper clean: “Ultrasonic devices, like Clarisonic, loosen pollution particles from the pores, so they can be easily removed,” Engelman notes. Wipe away residual debris with a cotton pad soaked with micellar water or an essence (try Exuviance Probiotic Lysate Anti-Pollution Essence, $49). Follow up with a charcoal mask a few times a week (such as Talika Bubble Mask, $10; or Burt’s Bees Detoxifying Charcoal Sheet Mask, $3). “Activated charcoal helps to clear out superficial toxins before they can do serious dam- age,” Engelman explains.

Repair DNA damage while you sleep

According to Beverly Hills dermatologist Ronald Moy, MD, undoing even some of the dam- age caused by debris, toxins, digital light, and UV rays will help keep skin healthy. His RMD skin-care line harnesses the power of DNA repair enzymes, derived from plankton, blue algae, and mustard greens (try RMD DNA Night Renewal lotion, $130). To detox from the inside out, Moy recommends taking 500 mg of vitamin B3 (aka niacinamide) twice a day, which has been “shown in studies to boost DNA repair and lessen signs of aging as well as decrease the potential for skin cancer.” And bolster your body’s—and skin’s—inherent ability to repair overnight with Moy’s RMD Nox Blend ($25), which contains vitamin B3 plus calming lemon balm extract and melatonin to promote better sleep. “When your circadian rhythm isn’t operating at peak condition, you’re damaging your skin’s ability to protect and heal itself,” he explains.

Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly ($28) contains sodium hyaluronate, glycerin, and barely extract to defend skin from pollution.

Antioxidants—THD Ascorbate (a powerful form of vitamin C), vitamin E, and ferulic acid—in Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C Power Serum ($95) fight free radicals.

Nick Jonas may have gotten his Jonas brothers to commit to flying 14+ hours to India to celebrate his and Priyanka Chopra’s heavily-covered-but-personally-unconfirmed engagement later this week, but until then, older bro Joe Jonas is in Miami with his own fiancée Sophie Turner. Those two were busy having your dream summer yesterday at South Beach’s Delano Hotel, hanging in the pool with one cocktail in each of their hands. That’s four fruity cocktails total for two people swimming. TMZ has that photo.

The two also made out in the pool publicly—a first for them. The couple has rarely kissed on land and never in water. Truly young, rich celebrity summer love at its most photogenic.

Turner and Joe Jonas, by the way, have been engaged since October 2017. They were first reported to be dating exclusively in December 2016.

WEEK OF August 13 – 19, 2018

Oysters and rose on a hotel rooftop, a picture-perfect gift for your BFF’s bridal shower, admission to the VIP section of that music festival… It seems like the summer keeps serving up legitimate reasons to spend every penny you have. But with Mercury retrograde in your finance house since July 26, your budget may have veered further off the rails than you intended. The good news is, there are only six more days (set that countdown clock, Cancer…) until Mercury corrects course. But don’t wait until then to balance your books. Those retail therapy splurges could be cutting into funds that might be needed for more practical purchases. Even if you are flush with cash at the moment, who says you have to burn through it all? Make an entertainment fund and come up with a savvy plan for tucking more away. Your investment accounts are always hungry for an extra “snack”—and will pay you back with compounding interest.

Mercury’s backspin may also be dredging up some uncomfortable dynamics with coworkers. Getting your team on a conference call has been as easy as herding cats, and you’re exhausted just hearing about everyone’s complicated vacation schedules. You and a colleague might be locked in a terse misunderstanding that’s left you both with sore feelings. Before this devolves any further, take a time out. You’d be better off devoting this week to playing catch-up on your solo tasks. Are there presentation decks you need to design? Paperwork you need to review? The solitary work days will be a hidden blessing since you’ll only have yourself to answer to. Since retrogrades energize the past, you might reconnect with a former coworker. Scan LinkedIn to see who’s up to interesting things. Catching up over coffee could open up a portal to new opportunity!

On Sunday, you may get swept off on a fantastic (and possibly romantic) voyage! For the third and final time since December 2, 2017, the zodiac’s dreamy nomads, Jupiter and Neptune, align in a free-flowing trine (120-degree angle). Suddenly, home is the last place you’ll want to be. Follow that uncharacteristic urge and find your bliss. Stuff a few bathing suits and sundresses into a carry-on and go visit your friend in another city, the one who’s been begging you to come hang out at her pool. Some Cancers could take a short journey in the name of love, driving (or flying) to have a face to face with that sultry someone you’ve been seeing—or just chatting with till the wee hours online. No matter where your flatform sandals are planted, this boundary-blurring transit can make you uncharacteristically assertive. Is that you, Cancer, copping to a crush, unprompted—or pursuing an attraction like a sexy panther on the prowl? Sure looks like it. And even if you KNOW it’s only an ephemeral summer fling, the attention could be too alluring to resist this weekend. Already spoken for? Plan a sweet escape with your S.O. and take advantage of the dwindling beach days of 2018. Can’t get away? Hit an art opening or pick up a pair of concert tickets to transport yourselves through the arts (Neptune’s domain).

Kylie Jenner

Billionaire Kylie Jenner is doing just wonderful today on her actual 21st birthday, after celebrating at her big party last night. She shared her morning companions, her baby daughter Stormi Webster and her boyfriend Travis Scott, and a shot of herself definitely not (that) hungover on Snapchat. Then she documented all her lavish birthday presents so far.

Jenner got an Instagram tribute from Scott who rarely Instagrams about her or his love life! He wrote: “Happy bday wifey I love u mommy u my heart rib toes and all. May god continue to bless u and ur spirit. This mark in ur life is the start to more greatness.”

And that’s only the start! As of press time, it’s just after 2 p.m. in Los Angeles on Jenner’s real birthday, so more birthday presents will presumably be documented as they arrive on Snapchat and/or Instagram Stories. But the trend for being recognized so far seems to be the bigger the gift, the bigger the promo, so…

Kourtney Kardashian

Getty ImagesVictor Decolongon

Kourtney Kardashian hasn’t said a word about her breakup on her own social media since news broke this week that she ended her nearly two-year relationship with her 25-year-old model boyfriend Younes Bendjima, and he got dramatic on Instagram after. She’s been seen having a night out with her friend and generally has sent the message in her unrelated Instagram stories that she’s fine and just living her life.

Tabloid sources have started talking about her state as well, and they’re saying about the same thing. Here, a roundup of what each outlet is reporting about Kardashian.

People wants you to know that despite Kardashian’s other ex Scott Disick being “so happy” about her breakup, Kardashian and him are never ever getting back together. Like ever. “This is not going to happen,” People‘s source said. “Kourtney will never get back with Scott. She’s happy that he’s doing well and spending a lot of time with the kid. She’s happy about co-parenting with Scott, but that’s it.”

People also reports Bendjima and Kardashian took a break shortly after they got back from their vacation in Europe. It wasn’t a full-fledged breakup…until photos circulated of Bendjima getting cuddly with a girl in Mexico (who denied being his rebound). “As soon as their long European vacation was over, they started having problems,” the outlet’s source detailed. “Younes was in L.A. recently, and things were not great. He and Kourtney didn’t get along. They decided to take a break but were not officially over. Now with the pictures of Younes in Mexico, they are definitely not getting back together.”

E! added that yeah, the Mexico pictures were the final straw. “There was a huge chance they were going to get back together and they were working on things,” a source told the outlet. “But now that these photos surfaced, things are definitely over.”

People and E! both report that Kardashian is a-okay though. “Kourtney doesn’t play games. She seems okay with [the breakup],” People‘s source said, adding that Bendjima was supposed to just be a rebound anyway.

“She’s in a good place right now and ready to move on,” E! said, on Kardashian’s reaction prior to seeing the photos of Bendjima in Mexico. “She was upset for a moment and then got over it.”

E! added that Kardashian is even ready to date again. “Kourtney has already told friends she’s ready to get back in the dating game and have fun with her friends,” the outlet’s source said. “Everyone in the family has been really supportive and has been making sure she’s entertained and busy.”

The beauty world loves itself some nostalgic beauty products, and the latest launch from Benefit Cosmetics will definitely bring you back to middle school. Remember click pens? Equipped with not only one, but four (or if you’re really a Cool Kid, ten) ink colors, the pens were both practical and a fun toy to have in class. Benefit’s version is meant to be used on your brows, and it may be their most genius invention yet.

image

Kristina Rodulfo

Brow Contour Pro ($34), available August 7 in five colorways, looks and feels like the clickpens of your youth. Instead of ink, however, it has four crayon products in one: a lighter shade, deeper shade, highlighter, and definer. Most makeup enthusiasts know that to have a really good brow day, you need to “carve” out or contour your brows using concealer to define them. This multitasker is meant to make that technique easier and quicker than ever.

First thing’s first: the size and shape of the pen feels great, so it’s easy to maneuver and be precise. I used the lighter shade to fill in my brows from the start to the arch, then used the deeper brow shade from the arch to the tail. A little goes a long way with this pigment—it’s meant to set for up to 24 hours—so instead of filling in every part of the arch, I used just a little and brushed it out with a separate spoolie to look natural. I then used the definer shade, which is close to my skin tone, to sharpen up the brow’s edges (think of it like an “eraser”). I finished with the highlighter shade on the brow bone.

image
Voila, defined brows!

Kristina Rodulfo

I know it sounds like a lot of steps, but with a little practice Brow Contour Pro makes it so easy even amateurs could master it. I personally find defining my brows with concealer a cumbersome process, but this pen makes it easier and gives me the thick, arched but natural-looking brows I always struggled to achieve.

WEEK OF August 6 – 12, 2018

Bring on the parties, industry events, workshops and weekend getaways that add up to a social season in overdrive! This Monday, August 6 charming Venus catwalks into Libra and your community-spirited third house until September 9. During these vertigo-inducing four weeks, you’ll be at the hub of overlapping friend circles, and you might be tapped to occasionally play entertainment director. (Not that you’ll mind—between your natural leadership ability and love of telling people what to do, you’ll be right in your element!) The third house rules local happenings, and if you’ve been thinking about becoming more of a fixture in your ‘hood, here’s your chance. As you get to know the eateries and watering holes, chat up the owners, managers and regular fixtures. You could wind up pooling your resources for fun AND profit. While Venus is the planet of romance, singles may prefer to keep things breezy during this chummy cycle. (Or not—so keep your eyes peeled.) Couples might feel the embers dying down a bit, but lean in to your greatest turn-on now: conversation that’s stimulating—in more ways than one! When Venus trines Mars on Tuesday, plan something surprising for your love interest, but tap the brakes on Thursday, when she collides into a tense square with critical Saturn.

You’ve been crushing it at work lately, but when disruptor Uranus turns retrograde on Tuesday (until January 6), you may need to take certain concepts back to the drawing board. Don’t despair, Leo: This is a necessary course correction that everyone goes through periodically. Don’t see it as a rebuke of your talent, but rather an opportunity to hit pause and reevaluate. On November 6, the side-spinning planet will back into Aries and your visionary zone for four months, when you’re likely to come up with something even more revolutionary—and amazing.

Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

Saturday is a huge day for your sign, as it brings the year’s only new moon in Leo—which also happens to be a super-charged solar eclipse that lands in close proximity to Mercury retrograde. But before you blast into the next 12-month cycle, take a moment to appreciate everything you’ve accomplished in the last six months. This will give you a sense of how far you’ve come AND set you up for even more (focused) growth. Remember, what you let go is just as important as what you call in. Set some new goals for the coming six months and empower them by writing them down in a journal. The corresponding Leo full moon on January 21 is also the final eclipse in a two-year series that’s touched your sign (and your opposite sign of Aquarius) since February 10, 2017. If you really put your mind to it, you can bring things together with a dramatic flourish between now and then.

Relationship intensity should finally simmer down come Sunday, as fiery Mars leaves your dynamic-duos realm and retreats back into Capricorn and your sixth house of work, service and healthy habits, where it will stay until September 10. Mars resumes forward motion on August 27, but it may take another few weeks to get your professional ducks in a row. Organize your desk, your desktop and all your systems so you don’t waste precious time and energy hunting things down. And take care of numero uno while you’re at it! Eating light, healthy meals and getting in plenty of daily movement—and rest—will get you back up to cruising speed by September.
