Sometimes, you get tired of the road to the gym, because you are either too exhausted before you even arrive, or it’s time-consuming. Paying for a gym membership while you’re busy most of the time is not exactly the most pleasant thing to do.

Thankfully, you can stop wasting money on memberships and create your own gym. Having a gym in the comfort of your home is not only money and time-saving, but also more convenient, as there’s nobody to stare at you. Here is how you can build the ultimate home gym.

1.   Flooring

gym flooring

Flooring is a very important aspect of a gym because it not only protects your property, but it also makes the gym equipment last longer. Moreover, the correct gym flooring won’t let you be too noisy when working out. It will actually reduce the sounds.

Look for commercial grade foam flooring, as it’s pretty affordable and it can last you for a while. Don’t buy a usual carpet and call it quits, because it’s not fit for a gym.

2. Home Gym System

A complete and effective home gym system like The Total Gym or Bowflex can come in handy if you decide to build your own gym in your house. Total Gym uses your own weight as resistance, so you can do a variety of exercises to stay in shape. In addition, its flexibility allows you to work more muscles in your body, not only focus on one part.

3. Barbell & plate set

As the foundation of almost all of your workouts, this is probably the most important thing your gym should contain. You don’t have to do flashy exercises in order to keep your body in shape, but rather classic core ones that are still popular to this day. This equipment lets you do exercises for your back, arms, legs, chest, and shoulders.

4. A Bench

In order to make proper use of your barbell set, a bench is important to have. Make sure you find high-quality ones that don’t rip too easily, as you don’t want to keep spending money on new benches. Opt for one that has a decline and incline functionality, because it can be very useful if you decide to go for a split bodybuilding style training phase.

5. Mirrors

Mirrors are a great way to motivate yourself, especially if you look seeing yourself working out. Make sure you place them in many places, so you can watch yourself using multiple equipments.

6. Dumbbells

If you have enough space in your gym, you can add dumbbells on your list too. If you want your family to exercise with you, as the lower weights make a low barrier to entry. If you don’t have a lot of space, you can opt for adjustable dumbbells, which don’t take a lot of space.

If you’ve decided to build a gym in your home, you hopefully know what you need now. It’s not an easy task, but with some preparation, you’ll be able to organize your space and purchase the right equipment.
